Summertime

June 8, 2018

We are now in full summertime mode, which means chasing giant Tarpon and sightcasting giant Snook.  On a recent outing we landed several trophy snook.  One thing I love about this time of year is the ability to catch large fish in the middle of the day, with no particularly “good tide”.

The Tarpon have moved in off our coast and in the bay.  Most fish are ranging from 100 to 150 pounds.  We are finding fish just about anywhere, but the favorites are around the mouth of Tampa Bay.  Thousands of fish spend the pre-spawn period this month feeding and dancing in the clear waters.  At the end of the month the spawn will happen and the fishing will change, but not diminish.   Many people ask me about Tarpon season, and they are surprised to learn that I catch them regularly thru October.  That said, now is as good a time as any to book a trip!
